The problem with being “busy”
How are things going? More often than not, the answer is “really busy” as a badge of accomplishment. To be sure, working hard is not a bad thing, unless you are working on things that don’t really matter, which a surprisingly high number of us are. Organizational practices have us falling into the rut of “this is the way we’ve always done it,” instead of creating value. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
The ETW® answer
We believe that practices exist to help everyone in the organization create the most value possible. When done intentionally, the correct practices ensure everyone is doing the right work, in the right order, at the right time.
Leaders create the systems and conditions for their teams to succeed. This includes the resources and practices to achieve the desired outcomes.
In an intentional culture, every team member is empowered to question if the current practices are creating value, or if there is a better way.
Do less, better. The best practices are often the most simple. Resist the urge to overcomplicate.
